No wonder I feel like I'm the only one who isn't on Facebook--600 million people are. That's twice the population of the United States!
The other thing I learned from watching The Social Network is to always, always have your lawyer check legal documents. Or you might end up suing your (ex) best friend.
Seeing as I'm not on Twitter or Facebook, I've never seen what companies' pages look like. I think it's rather strange that big corporations have Twitter accounts. What do they use them for?
Although I did run across al-Qaeda's Twitter account in the course of research for a project. It was terrifying. Please tell me you're not one of their 30,000 followers.
Go see The UnMom for some real Tuesday randomness.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Snow
Good thing we took full advantage of the sun as it made a brief appearance over the weekend, because we are now back to full on winter. And Snow Days!
Grapefruit juice in a paper cut = way worse than lemon juice in a paper cut.
I somehow picked another cancer book. Not only does the main character get cancer, she dies. Someone needs to tell authors and script writers that other illnesses do exist.
I am very adept at putting the soap in the dishwasher with the intent to start the dishwasher. I just don't seem to have mastered the pushing of the Start button.
Ever since I watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice, I've had Secrets stuck in my head. Definitely not a great movie, but I love the song.
That's all the random I've got this morning, but head over to The Un Mom for your random fix.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: No Waxing Eloquent
I am jealous of writers who can wax eloquent on a topic for pages. I don't really "wax", eloquent or not.
At my current rate of reading, three weeks from the library is not nearly enough time.
I would make a really bad politician because whenever I am outmaneuvered I just glare.
I never know what to say when I answer the phone and the person on the other end asks for me. Sometimes I'm tempted to tell them to hang on while "I go get her" and then come back and answer as me. But then I'd spend the rest of the phone call wondering if they knew I was the same person.
After four days, I'm ready to watch Inception again.
My school used to play music during passing periods on Fridays. Now it's sad and song-less, just like the rest of the week.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
"Smokey, why are you on the counter licking our pizza?"
The only time I have ever watch The Simpsons is right before midnight on New Year's Eve when I'm waiting for the ball to drop.
Okay is spelled either ok or okay, not OK.
A surprising number of people walk on the wrong side of the road.
My dentist is really good at not asking me questions while his hands and ten pointy instruments are in my mouth.
I very rarely give anything one star. Most things get three stars-not bad, but fine. I also don't feel as mean. But I've been reading a lot of one star books lately.
This song kills me. "It's not the end of everything, just the end of everything you know."

Random Tuesday Thoughts
My cat is determined to demolish my Christmas tree.
Playing solitaire on my iPod does a much better job of putting me to sleep than any of the drugs ever did.
I folded a fitted sheet! It didn't out so pretty, even with Martha's help. Better than what it was before, though. Good thing I won't be trying to make a living doing that.
Whoever said "Small things amuse small minds" didn't know what they were talking about.
I have some songs on my iPod only because I think I should like them.
I am so ready for this week to be over.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Chocolate Tofu
Have you ever had chocolate tofu? It's like instant chocolate pudding, only better, because 1) it's instant, and 2) you can pretend it's healthy.
I got a straight flush in poker. Unfortunately, we weren't playing for money. Or maybe that was good, because I still managed to lose.
Blogger and I aren't getting along so great. I can't get into the template designer, so I'm stuck with a very blue template.
I hate To-Do Lists. I feel like they judge me when I don't do everything. But I haven't been so good at keeping a running list in my head, so out comes the To-Do List paper.
Of course I have paper just for To-Do Lists.
When I was little I was completely convinced that "In and Out Syndrome" was a real thing. My mom said it jokingly about our cat one day. She (being the cat) still has it.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
How can you tell something is different if you don't remember how it was before?
Word scares me when it asks if I want to save the changes when I haven't made any changes. I always think it's going to delete everything, and then maybe wipe the hard drive for good measure.
Harry Potter rocks.
You know it's bad when you'd rather go to the dentist.
My school put on a play entitled The Bloody Attack of the Evil, Demonic Giraffe Puppet. I wish I could have seen it.
Is there an actual technique for folding fitted sheets? My technique is to smoosh them as small as they can get, shove them in the back of the closet, and hope no socks or other small articles of clothing got stuck.
I am very thankful Thanksgiving is this week. The food and the giving thanks will be great, but right now, I am just thankful for a long weekend.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
Isn't it annoying when inappropriate things pop into your head? Not inappropriate in general, just bad timing. Like when your tutor is explaining inclined planes and it occurs to you that fried chicken is fricken.
Another one of my fish died. It somehow managed to squeeze itself through a tiny little hole into the air pump and got trapped. The weird thing is, every time I replace the filter, I check and double check that no fish are caught because I'm so paranoid I might kill one that way. I don't know if it's good knowing it wasn't my fault, or bad knowing that they can swim in there anytime and die.
I've come to the conclusion that I like the idea of short hair, but not so much the reality. I just think I look better with longer hair. I do enjoy having less hair to deal with, although it is very obvious when I haven't taken a shower for a few days. (ahem)
I really wish there was a way to delete music directly off my iPod.
It creeps me out when deer stare at me while I'm getting dressed.
I packaged up my first Christmas gift yesterday. It was weird pulling out all the green and red paper.
I am so excited, for Harry Potter. We're going on Sunday, two days after it opens. Very excited.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
It's November, so naturally, Christmas decorations are out in full force.
My mom and I had a water fight yesterday. In the kitchen. It was lots of fun. (She started it.)
Why are all mental pictures bad ones?
There are still several non-dairy products in the fridge from a couple weeks ago when I tried going dairy free. I think they're going to end up in the trash. Some things were actually palatable, but we ate all those.
I'm learning all these weird things about myself that I thought were perfectly normal until someone told me otherwise.
My favorite book as a kid was The Balloon Tree. Whenever I think about it, I hear my mom's voice reading it. I can't separate one from the other.
That's a good thing.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Sage Advice
I never talk about my fish anymore. Not since I realized how not interesting it is to read about them. They are still swimming. (Well, two out of the three.)
I'm really enjoying my history class this year. Which is sort of a first for me. It's actually Constitutional and Criminal Law. In other words, I'm learning about things that actually affect me-directly.
I hate cold sores.
We have milk in our fridge that supposedly expires December 17. I dont'believe it. My mom suggested I save some until then to see if it's right. I think I'll be okay knowing I'm right, sans proof.
You know the characters in books that exist solely to give sage advice to the main characters? Well, there's a character from The Truth About Forever who isn't exactly that, but close enough.
The other day was not going so great, and I remembered her saying, "We know where we stand. Now things can only get better."
I thought about it. It helped.
Unfortunately, now that I've shared it, the magic is probably gone. Oh, well. I'll just have to keep reading books with wise characters full of sage advice.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: There Was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly
I watched the weirdest, strangest movie last night. I’m still not sure what it was about, or if there even was a point.
I’m sick of talking and thinking about standardized testing. Suffice it to say I sort of agreed with someone I overheard during a break saying, “Standardized testing will be the death of me".
I’m sixteen. No exclamation points. I don’t feel different; I stopped expecting to feel a change after I hit double digits.
Although it was cool hearing from my cousins and friends all over the world that I don't hear from often. The presents and chocolate cake didn't hurt, either.
The whole family has a cold. Even the cat has been sneezing.
My Spanish teacher had us translate “There Was an Old Woman” (who swallowed a fly). Ever since I’ve had a messed up Spanish/English version stuck in my head.
Sometimes hearing about other people hurts is reassuring, knowing I’m not alone. Sometimes it’s just depressing.
Go get random and un-depressed with The Un Mom.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Between the Upcoming Birthday and the Plastic Spoons, I'm Not Freaking Out
My mom's cousin (meaning my great uncle) stayed with us last night. I was utterly exhausted from my day and so I was more like a piece of furniture than a talking human being. I wanted to tell him that I'm really a nice, occassionally entertaining person. But I didn't. So I don't know what he thought about me.
Two doctors yesterday=utterly exhausting. Nothing new to report.
For dessert last night we had little mini Haagen Dazs. So yummy. I think the best part might have been the little, mini spoon that came with each one. (Besides the actual ice cream, of course.) (My parents pointed out that they're just tiny pieces of plastic. But they make me smile, so who cares.)
The PSAT is coming up. I refuse to stress or freak out.
My birthday is also coming up, which definitely helps negate some of the stress. No big plans....I can't believe I'll be sixteen. Not because I can get my license, which I legally could, but because it sounds old. (Shut up.) Compared to fifteen, it sounds old, is what I mean. More like adult-kid than kid-kid.
I won't be getting my license. It just doesn't interest me. I expect to be changing my tune once I actually have somewhere to go. But for now, it just seems like an awful lot of effort and responsibility. I cannot fathom why some people decided to let sixteen year-olds drive. Craziness. Scariness.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Disappearing Bicycle Edition
I have been putting off writing an article for Skipping Breakfast for about a month. I really need to just write it and be done with it. So I've told myself that today is the day I will finish it. We'll see how that works out.
Could someone please tell my razor to stop chewing up my legs, or I will be throwing it away very soon. Thanks.
Near downtown, there's a big warehouse full of books. (Or I assume so, because I've never been in there.) I'm only aware of it because they usually have a person with a big yellow arrow with the word Books written on it standing on the side of the street. The other day as my mom and I drove past, the guy was wearing nothing but underwear, and holding the sign just so, to make it look like he wasn't wearing anything.
There are 13 medical marijuana dispensaries between my house and my school. That's about 4 miles. Thirteen.
Getting soap up one's nose is never a pleasant thing. And I've found there's really no way to get it out. So last night I went to sleep with little soap bubbles all through my sinuses. Lovely.
Going over a bridge into downtown, there's a tower type thing on the right. It's really the only thing in the immediate skyline. And for the longest time there was a bicycle sitting on top of it. It had been there for as long as I could remember. Suddenly, it disappeared. No explanation. (Because they need to announce these things, maybe even let people vote on it.) Every time I passed it, it made me smile, and it made me wish I had brought my camera. Now it just makes me sad.

Random Tuesday Thoughts
I don't know who I should be mad at, so I'll just be mad at the TV. Friends re-runs used to be on at 5 PM every weekday. No longer. Now, How I Met Your Mother is on. I have nothing against How I Met Your Mother, except it's not Friends. TV, please fix this, so I can get my 1/2 hour of laughs every day.
I should say, in the interest of full disclosure, that I can watch Friends whenver I want. I own the whole series. (Best gift ever!) But that's not the point.
I have a strange, rather irritating habit of clipping my nails on my bed. This means that all the pointy nail clippings end up all over my bed. There has to be a simple solution to this.
One of the books I'm reading is written in a really interesting way. Instead of giving all the background on whatever first, the author just jumps right in. It took me a while to get used to, but now I kind of like it. This way, when I'm reading all the background, I know there's a point to the rambling.
It is good for my soul to take a break during the day. Go say hi to the cat, or whatever. I can get so busy "doing nothing" that I never take the time to actually do nothing.
I love when I know Smokey's entered a room because I can hear her purring.

Random Tuesday Thoughts: A Constipated Snail
Friday needs to hurry up and get here.
My dad took his class on an extended field trip, so he will be gone for most of this week. I discovered Monday morning that he took the plastic bowls that I always eat breakfast in. And I mean always. (I may be just a little OCD.) I seriously considered having something other than my standard Crispix for breakfast, but the only thing that would have been acceptable would be hot cereal, and I was too lazy to make it. So laziness can be good, when it combats my OCD.
My Spanish teacher taught us the word for constipated. Don't worry, you can hold off on calling Child Protective Services just yet. A student wanted to know, so she told him. Granted, she did then write a story about a constipated snail...
My toilet seat cover has, for the longest time, squeaked. Lately it's been one of those things that just really irritated me and sounded like the loudest noise possible. So I finally made the effort to walk the five feet or so from my bathroom, grab the WD40, and oil it up. Now the lack of sound makes me smile. When was the last time you smiled when you opened the toilet seat cover?
I have a birthday in a little over a month. (Wow, just looked at the date. 30 days. That's soon!) My mom asked me the other day what I wanted for my birthday. And my list is still about two items long. I guess this is a good thing, because it means I won't be drowning in useless stuff. However, it does leave a lot of decisions up to my parents. (Not that I don't trust them or anything.)

Random Tuesday Thoughts: Not-Chocolate Chocolate Sauce
It disturbs me that on the back of the chocolate sauce container, it says it has a real chocolate taste. So then, there can't be any actual chocolate in there, otherwise they wouldn't have to make it taste like chocolate. Huh, sometimes I wish I didn't read labels so carefully.
Despite the radio ad's best efforts to convince me otherwise, I am very doubtful that a beautiful smile will give me a "lifetime of happiness".
It has been hot here. Not any hotter than it was on any given day for the past two months, but my body seems to be noticing the heat a lot more. I think I've reached my limit with summer (Not the doing nothing part. The hot part. I can never have enough of the doing nothing part.). At least I have good timing. Most people consider fall to have officially started. Labor Day is past, and school has started. Heat, time for you to say your goodbyes. I won't miss you.
I recently seem to be attracting lots of bad books and worse movies. I seem incapable of attracting (see how I don't say choosing, because that would put the responsibility on me) anything good to watch or read. I'm stuck with semi-depressing books about the Iraq War (interesting doesn't make it less depressing), bad, not-funny movies, and summer re-runs on TV.
I see one speck of hope in the distance; fall means moderately less-bad TV.
Go get your random fix over at The Un Mom's.
